There is a hidden Montalcinello, made up of dozens of underground cellars. The entrance to one of the most interesting welcomes us with a door that seems to come from the dawn of time.
But it is the masonry that tells us the most fascinating story. As you can see from the image, we are faced with two distinct eras overlapping: an upper structure, typically medieval, rests on a more cavernous base that we believe belongs to an even more remote past. An intuition that becomes ever more concrete if we think of the artifacts emerging at the Scogli.
Beyond the historical charm, this underground world is an untapped resource for our area. The big dream would be to map the entire network to bring to life an extraordinary event, a real “Cellars Night” (the first to propose this idea was an archaeologist). But a first, wonderful step could be to reveal some of them already on the occasion of the next Borgo Incanto. Imagine: an immersive route among ancient stones, echoes of the past and glasses of local wine (similar to the Venetian bacaro tour). A unique experience, with huge potential to enchant those who visit our village.
