The best Italy, the one that gave the world Leonardo, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Raphael, etc., was not born from centralism (Rome) nor from nationalism (Nation): it flourished when small autonomous communities competed for beauty, ingenuity, and art.
It was the villages, the free cities, the creative communities that moved the world, not the central apparatuses that later led us to ruin.
